Chapter 12

Troubleshooting

Each entry is a symptom, what usually causes it, and what to do.

12.1No traffic on the map

Check the status bar first (The status bar). The ADS-B: line says where traffic is coming from.

What the status bar or map shows What to do
Playback Mode, or Back to Live Feed at the top You're watching a recording. Tap Back to Live Feed and choose your receiver.
Map Only, with a red NO ADS-B bar at the bottom No traffic source is selected. Tap Go Live.
Your receiver is listed, but no aircraft Check Aircraft tracked and 1090 ES in Receiver status. Zero messages usually means the antenna or power. Also check that no filter is hiding traffic: Filter turns gold when one is on (Hide traffic you don't need).
License: None Live traffic needs a license (Licenses and subscriptions).

12.2Stuck in Playback

The red Back to Live Feed button at the top of the map means a recording is loaded. Tap it, then choose Establish ADS-B Connection.

12.3The connection keeps dropping

  • Look at Power monitor in Receiver status. Anything below 100% CLEAN POWER, or short bars, means the power supply is dipping. Use a better supply or cable.
  • Move the phone closer to the receiver, with a clear line between them.
  • Switch to WiFi + Bluetooth, which keeps Bluetooth as a backup (Bluetooth, WiFi, or both).
  • If it continues, send the Diagnostic Log to support (Diagnostic log).

12.4An update won't start

  • Your phone must reach the receiver over WiFi, not Bluetooth alone. The phone carries the update to the receiver, and Bluetooth is too slow.
  • Your phone needs internet to download the update. On Direct connect that means mobile data; a tablet without mobile data can't download it there. Put the tablet and receiver on a router or hotspot with internet.

12.5Alerts are too quiet

12.6Traffic altitudes look wrong

If an aircraft you can see on the runway shows hundreds of feet above or below you, long-press it and use Calibrate Altitude Offset (Aircraft on the map). Receivers with a pressure sensor should use Use Pressure Altitude (Altitude settings).
